Melampa.com – Prambanan temple located in Prambanan Park, approximately 17 km to the east of Yogyakarta, precisely in Prambanan Village, Bokoharjo Subdistrict. Its location is only about 100m from Yogya-Solo highway, so it is not difficult to find it.
This temple complex is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia consist of 3 main parts which are named according Hindu Gods namely Shiva, Brahma and Vhisnu and other part consisting of hundred of smaller temple. Until now it is can not be ascertained when the temple was build and whose command, but strongly alleged that Prambanan temple was build around mid 9th century by the king of Wangsa Sanjaya, the King Balitung Maha Sambu.
The allegations are based on the contents of the Syiwagrha Inscription found around Prambanan and presently preserved at the National Museum in Jakarta. The inscription dates to 778 Saka (856 AD) was written during the reign of Rakai Pikatan.
This short tour will take you to visit Prambanan temple and explore it complex which is consist of three main temple and many other small temple around the complex which is called “Sew Temple” or Thousand temple. You can start and finish this tour from any place in Yogyakarta.
