Java island is one of the most densely populated island in the world, mega cities, urban and industrial cities and at the same time has been a destination for educational cities all around Indonesia and Southeast Asia, with soo many farm land, you can easily find what you need here.
But with all those label this island anyway still have many national park, there you can find savanna, grasslands and forests. One of them is Baluran National Park. In Baluran you will be invited to views wild life just like African wild life and nature, that’s why Baluran National Park has a nickname “The Little Africa in Java”.
Baluran national park Located in the eastern part of Banyuputih district, Situbondo, East Java, the main gate of this national park situated just a few meters from the western part of Banyuwangi district. The area of Baluran extended in both Situbondo and Banyuwangi regency along the north coast of Java.

There is a mountain that lies dormant right in the middle of the national park, this mount named Baluran, and from it’s name the national park’s name referred to.
Baluran National Park is representative of a specific dry forest ecosystem in Java, consists of savanna vegetation types, mangrove forest, monsoon forest, beach forest, swamp forest and evergreen forest throughout the year. Approximately 40% of savanna vegetation types dominate Baluran National Park. Black soil of alluvial and volcanic soils covering a total area of approximately half of the land area, overgrown grass savanna. This region is very fertile, rich diversity of food for grazing animals.
Best Season to visit Baluran
The best time to visit Baluran national park is within dry season, where you can watch directly antelope activities, buffalo and bison are clustered in a pools that have been provided by the officer for animal’s drink. During dry season, the water sources is hard to find in the forest, so they had to get out find it.

Places to visit around Baluran
Savanna Bekol
Bekol is a vast expanse of savanna, there is a tower in the middle of this savanna to spy on the activity of wild animals from a height, you should bring a binocular to do this. Additionally, the information center of Baluran national park located in Bekol.
Bama Beach
Bama beach is a part of the northern coast of Java, at this beach you can do many activities such as snorkeling, canoeing and fishing. Around the coast there are mangrove forests where some wild monkeys living and foraging. There is also a canteen and inn in Bama beach and you can stay overnight there.
Curah Tangis
For those of you who like to do trekking and rock climbing activities, Baluran national park also has interesting spot for your hobby, the name is Curah Tangis, the height of this hill is about 30-40 meters.
Evergreen Forest
A life time green forest and lush throughout the year. This is one of most favorite trekking path in Baluran, you can do trekking here to observe the activity of animals inside the forest,
Goa Jepang (Japan cave)
Just like its name, this cave is a heritage of Japanese army during their short occupation in Java within 1942-1945, the cave is situated in the village of Wonorejo and is still a part of Baluran national park.
Old well (Sumur Tua)
According to the history, this well is a heritage of ancient Majapahit kingdom.
Mount Baluran
The name of Baluran national park is referred to the name of this mount, this mount lies dormant in the middle of a national park, you can see it from everywhere inside Baluran national park. The height of this mount is 1247 meters above sea level.
Bilik Beach and Sijile Beach
Additionally to Bama beach, there is another beaches inside Baluran national park and are Bilik beach and Sijile beach, this beach has also a good view but unfortunately there is no tourist accommodation here.
