Excursion to Ranu Kumbolo
Melampa.com – Have you ever heard about Mount Semeru? This is the highest mountain in all around Java island, it peak name is Mahameru, its height is about 3,676 meters above sea level, but have you ever heard about “Ranu Kumbolo”?
Ranu Kumbolo is a lake of 18 hectares in the trekking path to Mahameru, situated in the valley, it is actually a valley basin and was flooded by water, it is very charming lake, the climbers will usually build a tent here before continuing the ascent, not just to take rest but also to enjoy wonderful natural scenery, Ranu Kumbolo have a crystal clear lake water, it complements the natural surroundings and make it into a very beautiful place.
To reach this lake, we must first have to ride a “hardtop” to Ranu Pani, a last township in the slope of Mount Semeru, Ranu Pani also is the first trekking post, you can choose one of 3 following route to go to Rani Pani; via Malang you can rent a hardtop in Tumpang village, then drive to Ranu Pani, it also can be reached from Probolinggo, in Sukapura village at the foot of Mount Bromo, we can rent a hardtop to Ranu Pani, from Lumajang you can use public transportation to Rani Pani, all of these routes will meet at Ranu Pani, from here we have to do trekking to Ranu Kumbolo and take approximately 4-5 hours depends to the climbers’s physical strength.
Because of it location is in the valley, Ranu Kumbolo have relatively extreme temperatures, on the peak of the dry season the temperature can reachs below zero degrees Celsius, and this temperature will be more warm on the rainy season, but in the rainy season the trekking path to Ranu Kumbolo lake will be very heavy, you were advised to climb to Ranu Kumbolo in dry season although the temperature is relatively cold in comparison with rainy season.
Do not tink that the trekking activity to Ranu Kumbolo is monopolized only by adventure lover or trained climbers, but also for a group of family traveler can spend holidays in Ranu Kumbolo, enjoying the feel of different holidays is certainly a new fabulous experience and fun, enjoy the mountains and nature but still be aware to keep the environment remain clean and sustainable. Of course a vacation in Ranu Kumbolo need extra logistic, do not forget to set up tents, prepare warm clothes, jackets, gloves, beanie, sleeping bags, supplies and of course cooking equipment.
